Excluded Property Trusts – an Inheritance and Estate Planning Opportunity for Non Domiciled individuals in the UK?

20 July 2021

Are you currently resident in the UK but not yet domiciled? Did you know that as long as you are neither UK domiciled nor deemed UK domiciled at the time the Excluded Property trust is created; assets settled within the trust remain out of scope for UK IHT purposes?

The proceeds from the sale of a foreign property can be placed in an offshore bond with the excluded property trust wrapped around it. Once UK domicile has been acquired the bond should not be topped up nor should any further assets be added to the trust.

There are ways of minimizing your UK IHT exposure through careful tax and estate planning. If you would like your loved ones to enjoy the benefits of your hard labour you must reach out to a firm with a tax advisory capability.
